What Remains: The Life and Work of Sally Mann (what I learned)

Sally Mann creates values and moral attitude using photography. Mann first came to international prominence in 1992, using her three children for her subjects. Filmed at her Virginia farm, and her willingness to reveal her artistic process allows the viewers to gain exclusive entrance to her world. She reflects on her own personal feelings about morality as she continues to examine the boundaries of contemporary art.

Light Graffiti & Painting With Light: What I learned notes.

Light Graffiti

The light is your paint and the world is your canvas, you paint your picture and then capture it. One of the amazing type of photography is known as the Light Graffiti that takes this concept and twist it a little bit. Do be able to create a Graffiti Light all you need to do is look at the incredible images that light
graffiti can produce and you'll almost immediately understand the concept of it. A person with the light source stands in front of a camera with a long exposure painting their picture in mid air. Take pictures in the dark using the manual or speed priority mode and increase your shutter speed. Allow yourself enough time to point your picture and light the subject. To filter out any unwanted light, keep your aperture around F5.6. Try to avoid plain torches because the white light is generally boring. The best thing to paint is something meaningful, interesting or unique. Drawing anything with life can create a great photo, like people, animals or flowers in the middle of the road.

Painting With Light

  • A camera that can do long exposure
  • A nice tripod
  • A flash light
A dark location

  • Product like shot
  • Location shots
  • Environment Graffiti.

Photographing Pets/ Animals (What I've learned)

It's best to take picture of your pet on their favorite spots. ex. (playing at the beach, running at the park, and so on.) You can also take picture of them by finding out what is unique about them and try to capture that uniqueness. It's best to take pictures of your pets by avoiding blur and turn the model dial to TV or you can control how you freeze the action. Use a standard lens or a zoom lens to shoot dramatic and expressive shots. Uncluttered background  with neutral colors is ideal because it isn't too distracting. A good picture of animals are also a picture with their owners, make sure to take pictures quickly because animals are easily distracted when outdoors. It's good to bend a bit lower as your pet's level for better great way to capture some dramatic, yet natural shots. Avoid using a flash when you're taking picture of your pet when it would reflect the light back to the lens.
